Match report from our 1st teams win over Droitwich on Saturday 🦌🏉

Malvern travelled to neighbours Droitwich with confidence high on a good run of wins and form. These games are always fiercely competitive.

Droitwich however are undergoing a significant rebuilding with a youthful 1st team due to a number of players leaving in the summer.

Malvern started the game with real intent.

Scoring started with a clever, measured Dan Batty kick through which Jack Curtis raced onto to score. Batty converting.

Droitwich responded with a penalty.

Batty returned a weak goal line drop out, scampering past the defence to make it 12-3

Malvern maintained the pressure, creating a five metre line out and hooker Glen Potter buried over to make it 19-3 with Batty’s conversion.

As ever with such competitive games there were occasional feisty moments with both teams receiving yellow cards for indiscipline.

Joe Allen was unlucky to receive a second yellow card whilst trying to free himself from being held at a ruck.

Half Time

Malvern started the second half determined to not let Droitwich back into the game.

Next up speedster Lewis Hardiman rounded off a good backs move to take the score to 24-3

Droitwich remained in the game with a well worked converted try.

The backs and forwards were now interlinking well. Rob Cook creating space and scoring for Batty to convert 31- 10

More good work in the backs with Hardiman benefiting from a lovely slight of hands by Windsor-Clive 36-10

Malvern pushed on further with power and pace from flanker Franco Bent driving over in the corner 41-10

Malvern now were in full flow determined to finish strongly with a number of quick penalties resulting in Cook going over to score, Batty converting, 48-10.

To round off the scoring, Hardiman completed more quality back scoring in the corner.

Full Time 53 -10

Director of Rugby Rob Cook said. “It has been an impressive few weeks. We have had various combinations across the team due to injuries and availabilities. This has turned into a positive. With real resilience from those involved”. Cook continued “Special mention to the coaching team, more players are training each week and the work of forwards coach Frankie Muratore is there to see. Ieuan Mustow who has joined the coaching team this season has been outstanding. His energy, enthusiasm and determination has rubbed off on the squad, helping create a real collective belief”.
