It is 50 years since I played rugby for Malvern, when I played alongside Mike Calvert who went on to help build the club into what now is a fitting legacy for so much effort. I was an apprentice along with Mike, at the RRE, living as we all did in what is now Park View apartments, Abbey road.

I met up yesterday with Mike , and it was as if I had seen him the day before, the 50 intervening years melted away as we revisited those days in the 1960's when as young men we played rugby together. (Picture circa 1969/70). It is not really difficult to pick us up in the line up, but in case you can't , Mike is 2nd from left standing, and I am far left, kneeling.

It was a real pleasure to also meet many other people of the era, who to a man, welcomed me as a long lost friend. My thanks go to John Holden too, who enabled me to contact Mike and set up the encounter.

I have written a book of my life story, and part of that includes of course my time in Malvern between 1966-70. I presented Mike with a signed copy of my book, as we watched England beat South Africa in the Members room.

"Not such an ordinary life after all" details the whole of my life, from Stratford to Malvern and then the whole world, showing what my electronic skills learnt at RRE were used for. They enabled me to work in the field of Geophysical Exploration all over the world, spending a great deal of time in the third world, occasionally in war torn countries.

The book can be purchased from Amazon, or any good book shop. (ISBN number 9781800160767)

I wish the club another 50 years of success, and hope that the efforts of those who helped make the club what it now is, will be always be appreciated and honoured.

From a former player, with thanks to everyone who made me so welcome.

Nick Evans.
