Malvern for the 2nd time in a week faced a team at the foot of the league. Similarly to last week Evesham always are a hard nut to crack. Competitive and never give up. Like Droitwich fielding through injuries and unavailability’s a very young team.
On a lovely day for rugby and with form in their favour, Malvern started looking anything but favourites. Hesitant, nervy and forcing passes when in possession and taking the wrong options. Evesham sensed an upset could be on the cards and worked hard to gain territory. They scored two penalties to go in to a 0-6 lead with 20 minutes on the clock.
Malvern grew into the game and whilst not in full flow began to exert some pressure and gain a foothold.
A few good passes and a fantastic slight of hand by prop Grant Fraser, put Joe Budd in for a score.
A yellow card for an Evesham centre put the away team under the cosh. Malvern now playing heads up rugby, saw Connor Giggle put Jasper Windsor-Clive
in for a try. The forwards took over and from a line out and driving maul hooker Glen Potter emerged to score in the corner.
Half Time 15 -6
The second half started with some clever play from Lewis Hardiman, he kicked through, burnt his opposite number to score in the corner Batty converted.
Next up a defence splitting Rob Cook kicked through which Batty Caught and grounded.
Malvern now in full flow. Good hands from the unselfish Hardiman, who may have scored himself, put Ben King in.
A lovely break in midfield from Windsor-Clive ended with a subtle kick through for a touch down for King. Conversion Batty
Some ill discipline from second row Ant Hitching saw a yellow card.
As a direct result from the penalty and line out, Evesham crashed over
Final word to Malvern saw Cook open up the defence to put Hardiman in. Batty converted
Final Score Malvern 46 - Evesham 11
Director of Rugby Rob Cook said. “ We started slowly and tried to force the game. We took time to get into our usual flow. When we did we scored some good tries.”
“It is always great to play in front of a big crowd. Today with the former players lunch we had the chance to do that. A big thanks to the crowd, players, coaches and team manager who have created real momentum”.
“We wish Evesham well for the rest of the season”.
