Only one fixture to report this weekend. Read on to find out how our U15s got on against Upton under the floodlights! Every other age group trained at Spring Lane with the exception of some girls who trained at a very muddy Upton with the Three Counties Thunder. As yesterday was Remembrance Sunday, players and coaches lined up to respect the two minutes silence to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
U15
On Friday the U15s made the short journey to local rivals Upton for what was their first fixture under floodlights. Considering the pitch had recently been under water it was in surprisingly good condition! Straight from kick off it was obvious both teams were up for it! From the off Malvern managed to pin Upton back in their own half, their well organised defence held firm until some great handling by the backs allowed Alex to burst through and score. The conversion was far from simple leaving Dylan plenty to do. As usual with the accuracy we’ve learnt to expect from the previous weeks, Dylan bagged the points. From the restart Upton pushed hard, pushing us back deep into our own half. Eventually, right on half time and following a string of great runs by Upton's backs, they ran in a try which the kicker was unlucky not to convert. Half Time Upton 5 Malvern 7.
During the second half Malvern’s pack continued to dominate the scrum and line out. They produced some great phase play and provided quality ball for the centres, testing Upton’s defence at every opportunity. With roughly 10 minutes remaining, Iuean who’d been a thorn in Upton’s side all game, went over to score the team’s second try. Again, expertly converted by Dylan giving Malvern a little breathing space for the final 10 minutes. Upton rallied towards the end but time ran out for them. Every player played their part and should be proud of an excellent team performance. Man of the match went to Ben for endless tackling and several strong runs. Full Time Upton 5 Malvern 14. Shout out to Upton RFC for being such great hosts.

U16
Commitments outside rugby meant a diminished group training - but there are still plenty of clubs who would be delighted with seeing 15 willing U16s putting in a strong session on any Sunday morning, let alone a Remembrance Sunday, with GCSE mock exams just around the corner.
Aside from suitably observing the 11 o’clock reflection, the players put in a physical couple of hours, working particularly on the breakdown. This was a good workout which builds on the previous Wednesday’s session delivered by Rob Cook, which saw 24 players applying themselves to decision-making, again, at the breakdown.
Next fixture is a cup match at Birmingham-Solihull next Sunday. The Wednesday evening session will be crucial preparation.

Who Cares Wins!
Remembrance Day saw the MRFC U14s training dedicating the whole session to those who have Fallen and Suffered for our country. Although the conditions were wet, cold and somewhat gloomy - not one player complained. Respect and praise indeed!
A number of players were absent in order to be on parade for this auspicious occasion but we still entertained 21 players wanting to train. The recent swell in new players is countermount to the great rugby and team spirit now on show with this team. Indeed club and coaches have the newfound issue of selection and game time ahead of future fixtures as we see an array of great talent within the squad. Players know they are now fighting for their position / selection and nothing is a given. Remembrance Day training session was all about preparation for our fixture next week at home in the North Mids Cup against a formidable Whitchurch - kick off will be 1030hrs and we will be ready.
Motto for yesterday was Train Hard - Fight Easy!

One Vern!
U12
The U12s had a very damp but productive training session this weekend.
We worked on several areas that we have highlighted to try and improve on; tackling technique, breaking the defensive line and decision making when off loading the ball.
Everyone got stuck in and it was a thoroughly enjoyable session to be involved with. All the players really threw themselves into the session. Well done all! 🏉🦌

U8s carried on their momentum with a short but sweet session on Sunday Morning. Focus was keeping hands warm and running onto the ball.
Well done all
