We are saddened to announce that our past President and Chairman Ray Gillard has died after a long illness.

Ray was a proud native of Somerset and long time supporter of Bath RFC who had a long and illustrious career in the NHS, culminating in the top post at Worcester Royal. After retiring, he then carved out a second successful career heading up a company working in the PFI sector.

In his time on the committee at Malvern Ray worked quietly in the background, taking the club from a precarious financial position to one of stability and he was never hesitant to add his own personal funds when necessary to the cause. He also helped several members who found themselves in financial need from time to time, on the understanding that these arrangements were never publicised.

He was a staunch supporter of the team and would travel to as many away games as possible, often doubling up as chauffeur. We last saw him at a match when he appeared on the touchline, wheelchair bound but still cheerful, at Malvern’s victorious game at Droitwich last season.

Ray’s funeral will be at the Vale Crematorium on 15th May at 2.00pm, with more details to follow. Our heartfelt condolences go to Pam and the family.
