Malvern RFC are delighted to announce the re-opening of its Clubhouse. It has been a challenging time for the club with a virtual 12 months loss of revenue from the clubhouse bar. If it were not for the loyalty of our members then we would have struggled to weather what has been a significant Covid storm.
The committee has ensured that the threat has been turned into an opportunity. New Clubhouse Chairwoman Helen Owen has left no stone unturned in ensuring the clubhouse is a venue that our players and members will love to spend time in. Helen with club stalwart Joe Wilks has overseen a complete makeover that means Malvern RFC is now a premier location for weddings, birthday parties and business functions.
New floors, a deep clean, cellar refurbishment, bar and kitchen makeover and a list of jobs as long as your arm being ticked off along the way.
As we gradually come out of lockdown the club wishes to ensure that it remains at the centre of the Malvern community. Men's adult and boys and girls junior rugby, with a mixed ability team and Wednesday evening tag rugby means there is something for everyone.
In the final step of our makeover, the committee has used the mandate given to it by the members at the last AGM and recruited a steward who will start as the club re-opens during the week of the 12th of April 2021.
The new Club Steward Mr Keith McCabe has worked extensively in the hospitality industry. He has experience as a matchday hospitality manager at a professional football club, he has been a restaurant manager at highly acclaimed restaurants and carried out several roles within the licensing trade.
Keith will take over all aspects of managing the clubhouse. He has been set the objectives of serving the best beer in Malvern, making the club the most hospitable it can be for all Our members and making the club the venue of choice for a good value family occasion such as a party or wedding.
In the first instance, the club will open with outside seating in what the club believes could well be "the biggest beer garden in Malvern". The club will then gradually reopen fully in line with the governments plans on moving out of lockdown.
Club Chairman John Holden said, "The last year has been a real challenge for our club, we have missed the rugby and the getting together in a way that only the camaraderie of rugby brings. We have refused to sit on our hands and feel sorry for ourselves. Led by Helen Owen and Joe Wilks, we have carried out a root and branch review of how we operate in the clubhouse. Helen has built on the 25 years service of former clubhouse Chairman Mike Calvert who has stepped down. His legacy means a strong foundation, which means Helen through her absolute knowledge of the hospitality world has started to take us to the next level".
The club will be opening it’s beer garden on Friday 16th April at 5pm, to stay up to date with the new opening times you can find them on the Malvern RFC App, Social media channels and Website.
