Malvern Colts once again travelled north on the M5 to face league opposition Aston Old Edwardians, Birmingham. The weather was dry and sunny, great conditions for a match against a similar team were also  predominantly 16 year olds and playing their first year in Colts rugby.

Malvern won the coin toss and opted to play the first half up the slope, Aston were quick out of the blocks with an early first score. Malvern held their nerve and quickly reorganised themselves and responded with a well worked try to level the game.

The first half was fiercely contested with only 1 score in it at the break. The trend of the first half was Aston Colts were showing great resilience and defensive skills, too often Aston Old Ed's turned the ball over from isolated Malvern players during attack moves.

After the half time break, Malvern came out with a renewed energy, playing with the slope they quickly established themselves. Both forwards and backs were now in the groove and mixing up their play to score , cutting through the opposition defensive lines, this young Malvern team were now full of confidence and scored multiple tries to finally win the game 59 points to 24.

The result looked a convincing win but it was harder fought than perhaps the score suggests. Great work across the team and three wins away from home already this season. This results moves Malvern to 4th in their North Midlands league,

After the game Coach Stu Holston said

"This Sunday Malvern Colts face Veyesans, a tough Birmingham team who are second in the league, it's time for Malvern Colts to show how much they are progressing at Stadio Spring Lane"

Kick off 2pm Sunday 20th October 2024. All supporters and ex Colts are welcome to cheer Malvern Colts on.
